firepits, fishies and friends. and red cups.

ok before i get started, i know this is blurry but isn't this sky beautiful?

when bob and elizabeth came last weekend, he asked what the chances were of having a firepit evening while they were here. seems i've made fire sound fun. (it is.) chances of fire fun are always pretty good around here, weather cooperating. we planned for friday after luke's band concert but it was pouring the rain so that was a no-go. saturday was packed full of activity early on for all of us, with the komen walk in the morning and sarah beth's birthday lunch in the afternoon so we were all kind of tired. greg had a meeting in the evening and bob and elizabeth spent some time on campus at marshall and then with scott and his bunch. i was firmly planted on the couch in "hope i can have a nap" mode. the papa john's guy brought us our supper. i knew it'd be a late one but decided that when greg and bob got back we'd do fire.greg had built it the night before and since we didn't use it it was ready for me and all i had to do was light it. that fit right in with my lazy mood! everyone got home one by one and eventually we were all here. our kids (including elizabeth) couldn't seem to tear themselves away from the tv except sometimes during commercials so we had a pretty quiet time of it. nathan & kathy came by for a bit with aly and andrew, and andrew livened things up! at least he got the smores and weenie roasting under way. good to have some little boy life and noise around the fire. cause the rest of us were a little zombie-fied. bob needs to come back and give us a re-do when we're all a little more back to normal. or at least our regular abnormal. (ok bob?)

i've been meaning to get some pictures of luke and his aquarium on here but keep forgetting. he had a pet store/fish purchase excursion with the smiths and adrianna the other day, so it was a perfect time to take them. he is just absolutely obsessed with fishies. i really should have him blog all about it so we could have a permanent record of fish types and fish names and so forth. he gives us up to the minute coverage on all of their activity (?) and which ones he thinks are pregnant and who is chewing on who and who the latest casualties are. never dull. he bought a squillion little baby fish which aly and adrianna named the "teenie bikinis". luke wasn't so sure about that but he went with it. the girls also chose a couple of fish for him to have in memory of haley and zoey. their names are polka and tinkerbell. actually i guess i should say there's one named tinkerbell and there WAS one named polka. polka didn't last long. i'm thinking fish aren't a good long-term memorial. or maybe it's just that fish don't do well after they have dot tattoo application by the fish-store guy. in any case, the aquarium population was down by one in no time.

luke's also got 3 bettas which are doing well. meet devin, kevin and lola.

had a little starbucks time/caffeine therapy with kathy on monday. detox time as she calls it. i thought maybe that'd be a good time to pull out a couple of the red cups that louie gave me after red cup season was over. he gave me enough for one a month and i haven't used any yet. couldn't think of a better occasion than maybe to make kathy smile a little. it did. and it also caused a little stir with our starbucks people. i'd never met the girl who asked if she could get our drinks started for us, so when i whipped out those red cups i got quite a look from her. like maybe i should be medicated or maybe she should call for help. i couldn't see who the barista was yet. but when the red cups made it down there we heard freddie's voice say to the girl "where'd you get these red cups?!?!" at least then i knew there was someone there who'd understand. freddie gets us. but i think the red cups threw him a little. he asked why we brought red cups and all i said was "freddie, it's a red cup kind of day." he took that. and even though it seemed to be a little disorienting for everyone (kathy and me included) to have a red cup in may when it's 80 degrees outside, next time he'll be ready and he'll know who's in line. and when we went to go sit down he told us "ya'll have a red cup kind of day." ok, thanks freddie! and thanks again for the cups, louie. =)
