wrappin' it up. again.

yesterday was just my typical go to the grocery store day. until my friend kim called and asked if i had time for coffee...???...don't i always? and coffee that's added into time with kim is a bonus. kim is one of the busiest people i know. and that's really an understatement. free time for her is hard to come by and she ended up with a surprise day off work yesterday. of course i met her and we had a good time together, talking about this and that, some serious things, some not-so-serious things. she had a big ol' hot tea and i had what starbucks adam called my "quad venti bunch-a-stuff latte'". that made me laugh! too bad i can't just order it that way next time.
max has been telling us for the last week or so that things are blurry and he's having a hard time seeing what he needs to see at school and at home. he told his teacher and she arranged for the school nurse to check his eyes. we got a nice little note home that said he failed his eye exam and needed to have his eyes checked. that was my plan anyway, but i'm glad they did that at school. he had his eye appointment yesterday and came away with a prescription for glasses that he only needs for reading and other closeup work. like computer things and video games. so actually i guess he's going to have them on quite a bit. doesn't need them for football or soccer or basketball or soccer, so that's good. we went to pick out frames and he chose his favorites after only trying on about 4 pair. i was expecting to be there much longer than that but he surprised me. he's wearing them just like the doctor told him to (for now) plus some extra time, which i suspect is because they're new. probably won't be too long until we have to remind him to put his glasses on. he'll be as good at remembering to wear them as his mama is.

this was a soccer morning. max had a 10:30 a.m. game and andrew had a 10:00, so we went a little early to be able to see him play some. we were there for quite awhile before he got there. i told greg i was going to have to skin nathan smith if he didn't show up with that boy so we could see him play. he showed up of course, just was a little past time because he was being a single dad today since kathy was working. he had a boy to wake up and a girl's freshly permed hair to deal with, so he did great to get there when he did! it was fun to watch andrew and his friends play. the ymca has a really good program and everyone pretty much tries to keep it fun for the kids. but as they get older, things get a little more competitive and a little more serious. they want to win instead of just wanting to run around in a little herd and kick a ball around. so seeing the 5 year olds play was fun. almost as fun was watching aly and her friend bella be silly girls. i remember being a silly little girl...they reminded me so much of laura and me when we were in elementary. (how in the world did our moms stand it? THANKS MOM!) we moved on to max's game at andrew's halftime and the smiths joined us when he was done for a little time at max's game. my brother scott and greg's dad keith also were able to be there with us, which was great! max's coach was gone today and they didn't do so well. don't know if it had anything to do with it, but i think it may have. he was disappointed and not in so great of a mood when they were done playing and had lost by a pretty good spread. top that off with the fact that nobody brought snacks for the team and you've got some sad little soccer players. we went to taco bell.
