family week, vol. 6...kites and storms

one of our beach mornings, though beautiful, was pretty gray looking to the west. it seemed pretty far off though. susan and drew flew their kites, my brother max was walking, megan and jon were walking, the rest of us were camped out on the beach. every now and then we'd comment on how dark it was "way down there" but it didn't seem to be coming our way. but then we felt a little sprinkle. and then a little more. and then it poured. the raindrops were HUGE. there was a cabana nearby so we grabbed our stuff and stood under it most of the time. it felt pretty good though, standing in the rain. why be afraid to get wet at the beach, right? most people left, but not us. dad was going down with the ship. we stayed. even when the thunder came. and the lightning. why would we want to leave?? after the storm passed we pretty much had a private beach, at least for awhile. people trickled back over eventually. susan and drew went to fly their kites again to give them a chance to dry out. max went along and susan taught him how to fly hers. he was able to do some tricks she showed him and he really really enjoyed it. she said he did a great job! i even flew it a little. crashed it a lot. but it was fun. kind of feels like you're the one doing the flying instead of the kite.
