some catchin' up to do

a few little tidbits.

luke had to make an ornament for math. he was making stonehenge and there were some specifications i know nothing about. he remembered he had to do it kind of last minute (this is the way he operates) so he disappeared into his room for awhile and here's what he came up with. it's made of an old cd (we hope it was old), gum wrappers and spare elephant parts. there ARE benefits, after all, to living in a black hole.

max and alex have gotten in some cold weather football.

we were excited to find some ice on our way to kathy's bus stop the other morning. this corner always collects water, so ice can be expected. max did a little skating.

we went to steak-n-shake for lunch after church one sunday. maybe it was just my mood, but i thought this section of the menu was pretty funny. funny as in stupid. their lighter choices are "cleverly" marked "lighter". nothing like stating the obvious.

FINALLY got some time with kim and kathy. we've been needing that and since kim was taking some vacation days we took advantage of it and hung out at starbucks for awhile.

we had our Christmas dinner at church and i tried some new recipes of course. i always like to try new ones for things where there'll be lots of people, that way if things aren't so good, it's spread out among a lot of people and i don't get stuck with it! fortunately these 2 things were delicious and eaten all up. except for the little bit of cake i grabbed at the end so we could have a little at home! i made tomato-feta salad and chocolate cake with homemade peanut butter frosting. with a few reese cup pieces scattered here and there...how bad can that be? after the dinner, blake's madrigal group gave a concert. they were GREAT as always. i think he may have felt a little strange dressed up and performing for his church family, but he did great. he's got (all 3 of our boys have) more self-confidence than their mother ever did or ever will!
