family week, vol. 5...fish and gators

i mentioned that there'd been some fishing behind mom and dad's condo. it's something i think all of our kids (my brothers' and mine) look forward to, at least the younger ones. my boys have always enjoyed it. this water has fish but i have no idea what kind, but there are little ones and then there are some big ones that jump out of the water up into the air as if to say "na na na na na na!" (did you read that in the 5 yr old tone i typed it in?) there used to be eels and turtles too. but i think the gator ate the turtles. and this year we have not one gator but two! a big one and a little one. but i say a gator's a gator. most of the time they swim over to the edge as soon as they hear our sliding door open. then they hang out there and wait for someone to cast their line. they go for the bait and the bobber even if nothing's caught yet. when someone does catch something, they have to hurry up and reel it in to beat the gators to it. max caught a fish this week that the gator managed to snap the body off of. a clean cut right below its head. pretty disgusting looking. it ended up getting the rest of it eventually. last year luke caught the gator and it freaked him out. this year jon and ginny caught him. when luke found out there was more than one gator he told me he's not sure he'll be fishing this year.
