after our weekend in wisconsin and one day back to catch our breath, the home schedule kicked back in and we've been back to busy. monday evening was our scout troop's court of honor. this is a night for parents to come and for the boys to share what they've been doing and receive any advancements coming their way. as i've mentioned before, blake is senior patrol leader this time so it was his responsibility to plan the evening and keep things moving. he did a good job! both blake and luke got some new merit badges for me to sew on (which i've already done, by the way). they're both working their way toward eagle scout.

for various reasons, we've decided to give our cat, cosmo, away - find him a good home where he'll have lots of love and be able to be outside. (he can't here...neighbor issues!) and with all the allergies in our family, it just hasn't always been good to have him in the house with us. i called my sister-in-law michele to see if she knew of anyone who wanted an outside cat and it turns out that she does! so today, off to scott and michele's he went. we packed up all his worldly goods and taxied him down to their house. the boys did fine, really, with the idea of him being gone. mainly i think because he's with our family and we can see him whenever. max had the hardest time but we got through it with no tears so

that's a good thing. i think my friend kathy has had a harder time with it than any of us! (you'll be ok, kathy. time heals, and all that.) today was max's last soccer game of the fall season, now we're off until spring. he has had the best season of his little soccer career and has come so far in his abilities. his coach, kent, is someone i just can't say enough good things about, at least in the context we know him in. he has been patient and kind and so so good with all of the kids. he is continuously encouraging them, has zeroed in on their strengths and problem areas and worked with them to help them be better. we hope we get on his team spring season! max thinks the world of him too.

our smiths made it to this last game, so that was fun. a little extra time together is always nice. and greg/blake/luke were able to be there too since the hiking is over for now. (FYI, that blog about the kanawha trace hike may never be - i can't talk them into doing it!)
