happy birthday blake!

today is blake's birthday....he's now 15....well, actually not until 11:44 p.m. but i suppose that's a technicality. i'd like to keep him younger for as long as i can though. when our kids were tiny boys, people always told us that time would fly and we needed to cherish every moment. well, we do as much cherishing as possible. and i'm here to say that time did and does fly. that applies to all our boys but today i'm thinking especially about blake. i think one of the things he was most excited about today was being able to sleep in! it's been a full week and he was glad (we all were) to not have to get out of the house before daybreak. he's had a good day. this evening we went to steak 'n shake for supper with some of our family and our kaplans. that place is new around here, therefore very busy. there were 13 of us which caused quite a hoo-ha getting somewhere all together. finally we did get to sit and it continued to be a circus for one reason or another. it was fun though! blake wanted a big cookie instead of cake so i made one and we took it with us to have after our meal. i took candles to blow out and make wishes on and of course we were going to sing a big birthday song. that is, until a bunch of people blake goes to school with came in. when it got to be time for the cookie, i said to blake "how would it be if we skipped the candles and singing?" he breathed a big sigh and said "thaaaaank you...."....guess he was a little worried about that! we ate the cookie and when we left we gave the rest to the kids he knew. they seemed glad about that. next stop was circuit city so he could spend a chunk of his birthday money. a side note: luke, who's never met a stranger, made a buddy tonight at the restaurant. the guy sitting at the table next to him was trying to steal luke's onion rings apparently. by the time we were done, he had handed blake a few dollars and wished him a happy birthday. we sang happy birthday in the van on the way home. and i'll get my boy to do some candle-blowing and wish-making tomorrow.
