we got so much of our list of things to see and do completed that by saturday morning, we found ourselves with not much planned. we decided to go to the jefferson memorial first thing. it was a little bit of a walk to get there, but what a beautiful walk. wish the cherry blossoms had been out, that would’ve been so gorgeous. but oh well. there was still the water and the monument itself. blake was the only one of us that had been to this memorial – he was during his 8th grade trip last year.

greg and i both just loved it. we both remarked that we thought it would be smaller. no idea why we thought that, it just has always seemed smaller than some of the others. well it wasn’t small. and it was so nice. so glad we went! we went to union station last year and liked it a lot so we went back. it really is a beautiful building. across the street from it is the postal museum. we went there for just a few minutes last year so that max could check out owney the dog, who he had read about at school. this time we wandered through it a little bit longer.

max thought he could grab a hologram, that cracked me up. it was pretty interesting, really, but we didn’t stay long. i think we were all a little museumed out by that point. greg has recently read “in a pit with a lion on a snowy day” by mark batterson, who is the pastor of national community church in the D.C. area. one of the church’s locations is ebenezer’s coffee house…now would that be a perfect spot for a church, or what? of course we had to go find it. it was very close to union station, so a visit there was a no-brainer. it was really the place greg most wanted to go this trip. it was a nice place – very full of people.

but since it was a gorgeous day we didn’t mind taking our coffee outside and sitting for awhile there. i’ll sit about anywhere i can have a cup of coffee. especially if my cup is full of peppermint white mocha. we left there to go back to the natural history museum…we hadn’t seen nearly enough bones or stuffed wildlife so we really did need another trip. (?!?!) seems there was a need to see the butterfly house and an imax movie. well…..the butterfly line was a mile long so they decided no on that one, and the imax was sold out. nobody seemed too disappointed. so to the hotel we went. and we didn’t even do the pool. we just flopped out in the room with a movie on tv and ordered pizza. i love time away.
