i am so very far behind with my blogging that i am almost thinking i'll pretend the past week or so didn't really happen and just pick it up from here. but it did happen so i have to blog it so later on i can be reminded of things that otherwise would be forgotten by my little brain. nothing monumentous in the eyes of anyone else probably, but all big to us. even the little things are big. maybe even ESPECIALLY the little things are big. anyway...so here are some bits and pieces to catch me up. luke and max are playing basketball again this year. they participate in the upward basketball program, which is being sponsored locally by a few churches in our area. it's set up to be an instructional league, not so

competitive as other local leagues. they really enjoy it and for the most part, it has been a very positive experience. this is the last year that luke can participate. max has a few years to go, if he decides he wants to continue. we all continue to be completely involved with our church and church family. that is why we're where we are, after all. greg, blake, luke and i are part of the praise team. max will be someday (could be now if he wanted to, really - he's good enough at guitar) but for now his job is "moral support" whenever we have a rehearsal or have to be there early to get ready for a worship service. we had a busy saturday this past weekend. our boy scouts went to an all day merit badge college and both came

home with 2, count 'em TWO, Eagle-required merit badges completed! they are both well on their way to earning their Eagle Scout rank. our cub scout played basketball (first time out post-tonsils) and then participated in his pack's pinewood derby. he had a really good time, made even more great by the fact that he won a couple of races. couldn't wipe the smile off his face.

greg and i looked at him a few minutes later and he was

standing across the room, still smiling. so tickled with himself!! he didn't win the whole shebang but he did great. and had fun, which is the best part in my opinion anyway. greg had a meeting at church that evening so the boys and i descended on the smith abode for the duration. the kids played, we ate some pizza, i made good on my promise to help kathy with the elementary school yearbook, and nathan very good-naturedly put up with all of us.

and helped us with internet connection issues. that poor guy can't get away from computer problems to save his life. we worked really hard (believin' that?) until the power went out. after that, it was just a big party. it was well after dark and so it was pitch black in there. kathy found some flashlights and a couple of oil lamps so we used those. we also made good use of the flash on my camera. blinded each other on a regular basis - just added to the fun, you know? greg got back

from his meeting and joined us over there for some semi-

technology free darkness. semi, because we did have our cell phones. kathy, sitting right next to me on the couch, texted me to tell me "it's dark." cracked me up. but it really was fun - all of a sudden there was no laptop (my battery had just run out of juice and kathy's has to be plugged in), no wii, no tv, no nothing. just oil lamp light and talking. and an occasional moment of flash induced blindness.

What a riot. We used to have those blackouts...but ours weren't accidental...you gotta pay those bills.
