snow and old wives' tales...update #3

ok, so not 5 minutes after max went grumpily back to bed, i got a text from wsaz saying our county schools are CLOSED. i went back to max's room to let him know. (this time he was blinded by the flash instead of by the kitchen light.) first he said "are you trickin' me?" but then he said, "i'm doing this again tonight!!!" i think i will too. and i'm doing the spoon part and flushing some extra ice cubes.

I love it!
Snow days are the best in the world. Then getting to spend the day in your pj and with the kids...what could be better. Mark has managed to schedule his last two days off when we have had a snow day...wonder how that happens.

I like Max's concept about using the largest spoon in the kitchen. We'll have to field-test that to see how it fits into the formula!
I'm a firm believer in giving credit where credit is due, and as an English teacher, I would be amiss if I did not "cite the source" from which I acquired this fun bit of weather information. It was one of my former fourth grade students, Ronnie Ferris, who shared this delightful custom with our class seven years ago when we were studying weather, and my students and I continue to test the elements when snow is in the f*o*r*e*c*a*s*t. I have been been teaching at the high school for nearly four years now, but I still tell my students of the tradition.
We may not always get a snow day, but at least we get a good laugh about it.
