we
spent our mother's day morning at church, of course. we were there early for praise team practice and this time max got to be more than "moral support". he actually got to play! he was just beside himself happy when greg told him since he knew all the chords in the songs we were doing there was no reason he couldn't play. he practiced a little saturday night and then sunday morning. he did GREAT!!! they all did.

i was thinking while we were standing up there that i needed no other gift for mother's day - all 5 of us were there together playing and singing. well, they were playing.
i was just singing because i can't play a single thing. anyway. i tried not to look at all my boys too much because that has a tendency to choke me up. couldn't help it though. and it was fun to look at the faces in our congregation and see some of them grinning at max, watching him play. big day for him!

i did get another gift though...LILACS! 3 of them, one from each boy. 1 purple and 2 pink. i've never even seen a pink lilac (what a contradictory name) so i'm really excited for spring next year to see and smell them. oh they are just my very favorite.

we were invited to have lunch with the smiths at jim and jane's house, so of course that's what we did. it was good to spend a little sunday afternoon time with them. and we got to finally meet their friends vivienne and annie and charlie, who i've heard about for a long time.

we had big storms and rain yesterday during church so there were lots of puddles to play in. max, aly and andrew found every one of them. including a very muddy one between jane's house and the next. they were muddy and soaked and just plain gross. but who cares, right? they were having so much fun. even luke got in on it. i remember running through puddles with laura when we were little. and even playing in the street when it was flooded. at least until mom and phyllis saw us then we had to get out because "THAT'S NASTY SEWER WATER!! GET OUTTA THERE!!"

...aly had on white pants i bet will never be mudless again. max had on his dress shirt and was doing pushups in the puddles but it did come clean this morning. andrew had on flannel footie pajamas (gotta know andrew) and we probably could've wrung 5 gallons of water out of him if we'd tried. memories. can't beat 'em.
