food and friends

our weekend really was kind of quiet. with 2/3 of our boys gone, the testosterone factor was way down and max had no one to (successfully) argue with. we missed blake and luke but we did ok. friday was just kind of a normallish day. greg was home, max went to swim at alex's and i got the grocery shopping done which took me forever since i'm moving kind of slow lately. greg and max got the groceries in and we just hung around. the evening was fun though, because we went out with jeff and donna and their boys. our time together is sporadic recently for some reason, just busy-ness of life i guess, so anytime there's a chance to get together we take it! we went to dinner which gave us lots of catching up time, then to a movie. did you know that people stare at you when you take pictures in a movie theater, even if it's before anything at all is going on? i could've announced that it was a bloggable moment but i just put my camera away instead. of course after the movie we went to starbucks...it's tradition, so why mess that up? jeff suggested a new drink he'd tried so greg and i tried a new thing. i think it was a mint mocha chip something frapp? can't remember the name exactly. anyway, it was really good. but i think i'm sticking with my iced latte'. it was back home after that. max was being allowed to stay up way too late to watch a show he wanted to see that didn't come on til 11. but the massive thunderstorms moving through took care of our satellite so off to bed he went. saturday was just as laid back. ran a few errands maybe, but nothing major during the day. in the evening we went to louie and johnna's for a cookout. i took farro salad (farro is wheat..really good..yummy salad...giada's recipe...just so you know) which louie kept calling "wheat ball salad". i think i'm going to call it that from now on. easier than explaining what farro is! becca made a dessert which was actually more like a self portrait since she typically has the very same smile on her face that her oreo pie was wearing. it was a great relaxing evening, good food and lots of fun conversation. louie cracks me up enough on his own, but dave was there too so together they're quite an experience. with blake, luke and garrett at ichthus, max spent the evening with becca and hannah, therefore was surrounded by young female estrogen. he did quite well. there wasn't a man-battle to be had anywhere.
