labor day weekend

we kind of had a mishmash of activity over the weekend. we have been in this house for over 5 years now, which is pretty much a record for us. we're used to moving at least every 3 years but God has seen fit to leave us here in this place (that we're loving by the way) for now. blake was 9 when we moved here, luke was 7 and max was 3. blake had sports border on his bedroom wall and luke had jungle animals. okay, so now those 2 are teenagers and it is waaaaaay past time for a change in their decor. (max's already changed when my grandmother stayed in his room last winter, so he's good, but he'll get a new coat of paint so he won't feel left out!) saturday we spent the day stripping wallpaper border and getting walls ready to paint. sunday after church and after having a wonderful and relaxing time with my mom and dad, we got luke's room painted. it is a silver/gray so that he can decorate to his heart's content with philadelphia eagles stuff. blake's will get done sometime this week hopefully but right now it's still in transition. max will come in last on this one. we tackled the whole project together and had a really good time doing that. and we sweated our brains out - it was sooooo hot upstairs! i forgot to mention that blake washed the jeep for greg (good boy!!!) and max learned how to mow the grass. he was very excited about that and is looking forward to the next time. we'll see how he feels about it this time next year. monday we got up bright and early and drove off to cincinnati for the reds game. (yes jan we were there and we didn't call you and i'm really sorry about that...) greg got a deal on some tickets from a friend here. the boys decided they wanted to sit in the outfield seats, so that's where we sat. and there really aren't any bad seats at that ballpark. we were right out there with junior, delicate flower that he is. again, we sweated, sweated, and sweated some more. we ate ballpark food and drank lots of water and then had some snow cones. i thought about just pouring it on my head but i decided to just eat it. the reds lost but we had a great time anyway. only bad thing was during the pregame activities. following a really nice presentation to some navy veterans and a medal presentation to a soldier who has been in iraq, we sang the national anthem (everyone there, not just us!), we turned to sit down and overhead we heard a very loud (and close) sound of a plane. i thought to myself that maybe it was a fly-by of a fighter plane or something. but i looked up and it was just kind of a regular plane and it was LOW and it looked like it was going to go right into the stands on the first base line part of the stadium. kind of a surreal moment. all in slow-motion. it made us think of 9/11- really shook me up! had there not been a u.s. military emblem on the side of it i may have totally lost it. obviously it was supposed to be there. but it took us awhile to stop commenting on it to one another. the boys were pretty shaken by it too. it was just so strange to see a huge plane basically inside the baseball park. in the picture i'm posting here, the plane took up the whole portion of our view between the lights and the building on the right. it seriously looked like it was going to hit the lights and we were glad we weren't sitting up in those seats. greg said "can you imagine being the guy in the wtc tower drinking your morning coffee and looking out the window and seeing that coming toward you?" i can't. the whole airplane thing got no oohs and ahhs. it was actually pretty quiet when that happened. don't guess we were the only ones having a 9/11 moment.

ok i need to lighten this up...here's a picture of junior's rear end...and some chit-chat on the field by the overpaid athletes... "just junior"...i promise i don't have a thing for him. he just happens to be one of the 2 reds players that i can put a name with!
lastly, a reminder that you, too, could bring your dog to friends for life dog day at the great american ballpark next wednesday. the first 5000 pet owners get a free chew toy. we decided we don't know a soul other than our friend kathy who would take a dog to a baseball game.

so i know that plane thing shook you up b/c you weren't able to photograph it...and uh yea I'd be the same way...i probably wouldn't be able to enjoy the game! looking forward to seeing the boys finished room projects.
oh and spencer is sooooooooooo there at my next reds game. have to get him a red shirt and all so he won't burn his pink taco body.

I CAN NOT believe that we didn't even get a phone call. You have to go right past our exit to get to the stadium and then again on the way back to WV. Boy are you all in trouble...just wait until Bubba hears about that! But isn't it a cool ballpark...I love it and so does Michael.
