boys boys boys

i realized yesterday that i have no photographic evidence of my 2 youngest sons and their partners in crime doing what they do pretty much daily in front of our house. sometimes it happens at someone else's house but usually it's down here. we've never let them play football in a league so they've always just played with their friends in the neighborhood. after really paying attention to how they played and watching bodies go down and watching (and hearing) heads get whacked on the ground i instituted the flag football rule. which due to lack of flaggage became sock football. they were totally ok with that. maybe they were tired of the pain? who knows. so, at least at creasy stadium, they use old soccer socks and play their little hearts out. they still play a little rough but that's them. they've made up their own plays, have their own playbooks, and have these little signals to each other that crack me up. and they spit. a lot. on days like yesterday when they decide to play shoeless (??) i lock the door to keep their icky little feet outside when they have various emergencies (excuses to come in) . i send drinks outside and unless it's an obvious and true bathroom necessity, out they stay. i get some interesting looks with the locked door tactic. i'm not sure who won yesterday but socks were flying. and i still noticed a little tackling going on. oh, and p.s., that's not my truck.

today is "turn your back on drugs day" so max wore his clothes backwards. just his shirt, really. i asked him why he didn't wear his shoes backwards and he looked a little confused. "that would hurt," he said. then he thought he'd try it, but decided against it. when he met his buddy alex at the bus stop they decided to put their jackets and hoodies on backwards and wear their hoods over their faces to "mask their identities" and wear their backpacks in the front and call them "bellypacks". boys.
