pre-Christmas good stuff, volume 2

all 3 of my boys have had mrs. reichenbecher for their teacher at some point during their elementary school years. blake had her for 4th grade, so did luke. this year she switched to 3rd grade, and since it was max's 3rd grade year, we lobbied pretty hard to make sure he got in her class. oh how fortunate we are! i was reminded of one of my favorite parts of her class when max brought home his 3 wisemen noodle sculpture. when blake brought his home we thought it was just beautiful. then the next year luke made one and we had 2. they are one of our very favorite Christmas decorations and we display them proudly. now we have 3!!!

today we spent the morning and afternoon at church preparing grocery bags full of food to hand out to families in our community. our church family also pitched in and cooked and served a chili lunch for those who came to pick up their food. we've got a great bunch of folks at our church and they always make such a great effort for this - one of those multigenerational activities for us. senior citizens all the way down to the little kids. so many helpers and all working together. it's the 2nd year we've provided a meal for the food recipients, and although they are grateful and very appreciative, we are the ones who are blessed by the whole thing. no kidding, it's one of the best parts of my Christmas.

this evening, the boys and i were off for an adventure with kathy and the smith kiddos. part of the adventure was our map being drawn with red sharpie on a paper plate. kathy, you crack me up. shawn (our school bus driver) has been taking some time off since the accident on 12/11 when the 3 boys were killed after running into his bus head-on. max and alyson weren't going to be able to give him his gifts on the bus, so we invaded his territory and went on out to his house. i think he got some cookies and muddy buddies from aly and he got party mix and fudge from max. it was really good to see him - we've been missing him at the bus stop! he said he'll be back in january. we're counting on that.

My heart is so happy right now. You and your church are bright lights in the community and beyond! And I want to meet this cool teacher!
