fire fire fire YAY!

now that spring is here and winter is gone (i think...one never really knows...) it's time for all of that warm weather outside kind of stuff that we love, which includes evenings around the firepit with friends! and since it's spring break it's the perfect time since we don't have to be up early and can stay up as long as we want. sunday was an absolutely gorgeous day, so that evening after church we played fire at the smiths. the evening was every bit as beautiful as the daytime hours, even as it got cooler the later it got to be. the grownups stayed around the fire and the kids traveled back and forth between the fire and the trampoline. they bounced and bounced all evening long, even aly with her broken toe in a big boot.

ever since we attempted peep roasting in the fall (it doesn't work well) it's kind of been something we have to do. and since this was post-easter, peeps were in good supply. these little bunnies were burned at the stake. strangely, those sweet little bunnies look a little evil when they're burning. check out bunny #1 in the picture on the right.

the evening was pretty uneventful. kathy was the only one to be branded with hot metal. (she won't appear on this blog - she vetoed every single shot of her!) no one fell into the fire, which is always a plus. no one broke a toe on the trampoline, although all jumpers were clubbed at some point with aly's boot. there was no food mess on the ground because spencer took care of all that. we decided that maybe we'd lost our firebuilding expertise because every now and then the fire disappeared and we had nothing but smoke. i mean thick smoke. the kind that chokes you and makes you want to, oh, i don't know, maybe pop your eyeballs out so you can rinse them off? but i think we'll be ok. we'll be getting lots of practice! in the meantime, i discovered that if you wear your jacket backwards you can put the hood over your face, which helps a lot. smoke or not, we had plenty of fire and smores and weenies and other firepittie snacks. and lots of talking and laughing, which just feels good. can't wait to do it again.
