max's birthday...it never ends

since max's birthday coincided with the first day of school, his celebrations have been numerous in order to fit everyone in. in fact, we're not quite done yet. he still wants birthday cake and ice cream with his "big family" even though he's received all the gifts he's going to get. he still wants that time with them. (i'm loving that about him!) it hasn't happened yet, so those pics will come later. he did finally get his birthday spankins from pop. he really looks like he's in some serious pain, doesn't he? =)

max had a few friends over for a sleepover. i still don't understand why that event even has the word "sleep" in it. although when all was said and done they did actually get more sleep than i thought they would. he and his buddies ate pizza, played football and baseball til the sun went down and then came in and switched to video games. let me just mention that little boys can still smell pretty powerful even in the years before hormones kick in full force. they came in from playing outside looking like someone had hosed them down, they were so sweaty. such a lovely aroma. they made it through the night on leftover cupcakes, capri-suns and assorted chips. and the birthday boy had a great time, so it was a success.
